Mr. Cantos holds a Masters degree in Development Economics from the University of the Philippines, Diliman with major concentrations in environment and sustainable development. He has extensive experience in trans-boundary marine and fisheries conservation focused on co-management through regional policy development and spatial management spanning the waters of Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines. His previous trainings include GIS and remote sensing technology from the European Space Agency and climate policy development and monitoring from UNESCO. Mr. Cantos currently works as Project Manager for the World Wildlife Fund conducting climate risk assessment using economic modeling aimed at identifying how climate change affects different sectors. During his time in the Humphrey Program, he hopes to gain a deeper understanding of environmental issues across all the boundaries: social, economic, and political in order to move sustainable development forward in his country. Specifically, Mr. Cantos plans to pursue academic training in quantitative methods of climate assessment, improve his leadership and management skills, and expand access to networks for project development.
